While walking may be simple, it&#8217;s important to learn and know the basics of walking safely around crosswalks, in parking lots, and elsewhere around town.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Always cross at an intersection and preferably in a crosswalk.<\/li>\n<li>Make eye contact with drivers to be sure you are seen.<\/li>\n<li>Always look left, right, and left again before crossing a street.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid wearing headphones or using your phone when crossing the street.<\/li>\n<li>Watch for traffic the entire time you are crossing a street.<\/li>\n<li>Be aware of turning vehicles.<\/li>\n<li>Do not cross in the middle of the street or between parked cars.<\/li>\n<li>Avoid walking in traffic where there are no sidewalks or crosswalks.<\/li>\n<li>If you have to walk on a road without sidewalks, walk<em> facing<\/em> traffic.<\/li>\n<li>Never walk behind a vehicle that is backing up.<\/li>\n<li>Watch for cars entering or exiting driveways, or backing up in parking lots.<\/li>\n<li>Wear bright colors or reflective clothing if walking at night.
